Here are the basics of Oregon’s health insurance market.
The Oregon Health Plan, or OHP, has been a dominant player in the market.
Oregonians can buy individual or family plans, or groups of individual or group plans.
Oregonians will be able to get coverage from the Oregon Health Connector, a government-run exchange set up by the state in 2019.
“I think they are doing a good job of it, so it’s really a no brainer for me,” said Linda Klima, a 50-year-old nurse in Portland.
“It’s a great thing for the state of Oregon.”
She said she plans to enroll her family in the Oregon Connector exchange as soon as possible.
“I just want to get it out there and see how much it’s going to cost and what it’s like,” Klimo said.
Klima’s family will pay $3,000 per year for an individual plan and $3 to $5 for a family plan, depending on income.
Oregonans will also be able sign up for a subsidized health care plan through the state-run Medicaid program.
“My plan is going to be quite generous for a middle class family,” said Klimi.
“We’re getting the lowest cost possible.”
Klimi’s plan will pay her $9,000 a year.
Karen Zabel, who has lived in Portland for five years, said she has a good relationship with her insurer.
“They do a good, fair deal.
It’s a good plan,” she said.
Zabel, a nurse who has worked in health care for 20 years, is worried about what will happen if she is denied coverage.
“The whole insurance market is really complicated.
The state is not taking responsibility for everything,” Zabel said.”
You’re not going to get the same kind of care if you’re uninsured.”
The Oregon Connected Health Plan has been in operation since January 2019.
It is the state’s third health insurance exchange.
The other two are in Nevada and California.
Oregon’s health exchange, the Oregon Healthy Care Act, or HCA, is a federal law that requires insurers to cover all Americans, regardless of income.
The act is intended to ensure health coverage for people without employer-sponsored coverage.
Oregon Health Connectors have set up their own website, www.healthcoverage.org.
It has a website that allows you to compare plans and offers advice on the best plans for you.
OregonHealth Connector is also encouraging people to register with the Oregon Office of Health Information Technology, which is helping the state prepare for the new exchange.
“There are many options out there, so if you have an idea or need help, we’re happy to help,” said Doug Miller, the agency’s chief information officer.
“All the information on this website will be available to us on our website.”
The website offers a list of available plans, and Oregon HealthConnector also offers a phone number for individuals to call for information about coverage options.
“Hopefully, the best information that we can get from the state will be what they’re providing to us,” Miller said.
Oregon has a strong reputation for providing affordable health care, but some experts have warned that the state is lagging in health insurance coverage.
